Chapter Sixteen

People are asking around, looking for the whereabouts of your boy.

Beau glanced at Jake’s text, and then slid off the kitchen stool he’d been sitting on, watching Blue have fun making lunch. Their burger night had been a success, although Blue couldn’t quite manage his fourth burger and while he didn’t stay awake to watch much of the movie, Beau didn’t mind. He could only imagine that someone who’d spent six years sleeping under bushes had a lot of sleep in a bed to catch up on.

“I’d better not hear you’re being blamed for another murder,” Blue warned as he flipped eggs. “You have five minutes.”

“I promise, precious.” Clicking the connect button, Beau held his phone up to his ear as he wandered into the living room. “What people? When?” He demanded as soon as Jake answered the phone.

“Betty over at the Can-Can let one of our ladies know last night. Those two European idiots were in making a lot of noise – not as much money to flash around, Betty noticed. But from what she could make out, they are looking for the freak with the blue hair and they’re paying a reward for him. You know as well as I do, no matter what we do, there are still a lot of rough sleepers who’d sell their mother for a fix.”

“I want them picked up,” Beau growled. “Ideally, I want them run out of town, but I especially don’t want them running around making promises to people they don’t have the funds to keep.”

“Not to mention, you don’t like the idea of your mate being a target, which is understandable.” Jake paused and then said, “Why don’t we just go to the Can-Can club tonight? No one can find the hotel they’re staying at, although one of the guys who runs the coffee shop down the block mentioned he thought they might be over on the East side.”

“We might have to.” Beau sighed. After making his promise, he would have to take Blue with him, and while he wasn’t embarrassed to be seen with his precious mate, he didn’t want Dank and Nodge feasting their grubby little eyes on him. “You know, most people when they get told no for a blow job just accept it and look for someone more willing. This behavior from our European nuisances is bordering on obsessive.”

“I might know that reason. I’m not sure, I’ve only heard this third-hand mind,” Jake said slowly, “but there’s a possibility the two idiots believe Blue is more than he appears.”

“In a paranormal sense?” Beau frowned, before glancing in the direction of the kitchen. Plates were clacking about. Blue must’ve finished cooking.

“No. No.” There were some muffled sounds, and then a door closing, before Jake’s voice came back. “Someone, and that someone would have to be a law enforcement officer because they’re the only ones that know apart from you and me, has let it slip that Blue’s first name is Prince.
